Light in detail
FORMA Light is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid dermal filler at 20 mg/ml, the lightest of FORMA's three densities. The gel is cross-linked with BDDE and supplied as a single 1 ml pre-filled glass syringe with four 30G needles; the package insert recommends a 30G needle. FORMA dermal fillers are cross-linked hyaluronic acid devices made in Italy and placed on the market by Forma S.R.L.S., under an ISO 13485 quality system and ISO 22716 good manufacturing practice. They are medical devices for administration by qualified medical practitioners only.
Why plasticity decides where a gel belongs. Light is rated 5 out of 5 for plasticity — the softest and most adaptive gel in the range. A high-plasticity gel conforms to the tissue around it rather than holding a defined shape of its own. That is what is wanted in the superficial dermis, where a firmer gel risks being visible or palpable under thin skin; and it is what is not wanted where projection is the goal, since a soft gel disperses instead of lifting. The choice between the three FORMA densities is a question of depth and intention, not of strength.
Where it is placed. Light is intended for the superficial dermis. It is most often chosen for three areas: the under-eye region, definition of the lip — particularly the vermilion border — and fine lines and superficial wrinkles. These are the regions where the skin is thinnest and where the correction sought is a smoothing of surface texture rather than an addition of volume.
Choosing between Light, Strong and Extra Strong. The three differ in concentration, plasticity and depth of implantation. Light sits at 20 mg/ml, plasticity 5/5, in the superficial dermis, with 30G needles. Strong sits at 24 mg/ml, plasticity 3/5, in the mid to deep dermis, with 27G needles. Extra Strong sits at 26 mg/ml, plasticity 2/5, in the deep dermis and supraperiosteal plane, with 25G needles. A practitioner treating the under-eye or a fine perioral line is choosing Light; one rebuilding facial structure is not.
